Doing our bit in the community

Aberdeen Alarm Company will be taking a table at a charity event being held in Aberdeen at the end of this month.

The Masquerade Ball being held on the 27th February 2016 at the Marcliffe Hotel is being held to raise funds to purchase a Specular Microscope for Aberdeen Royal Infirmary's Opthalmology Department.

Organised by Simon & Roslyn Robertson of Joseph Robertson (Aberdeen) Ltd, the black tie event will be attended by at least 200 people. Taking a table of 10 for the event and providing an auction / raffle prize, we at Aberdeen Alarm Company, are delighted to be able to contribute to their fundraising efforts. Family and friends have already raised £9,000 towards the cost of the microscope by competing in the Ben Nevis Charity Challenge last September.

Designed to evaluate the condition of the cornea before and after transplant, Aberdeen patients would benefit from an increase in surgical success with a Specular Microscope at ARI.

As a company, we are very pleased to be able to 'do our bit' to help and wish them every success in their fundraising campaign. Below you'll find a little more background to their fundraising campaign.

Simon's Story

Born with Congenital Glaucoma, Simon Robertson lost the sight in one eye at an early age. Living a normal, active and outgoing life until 2008, the cornea of his only / good eye was severed in a random assault leaving him with the possibility of never being able to see again. He registered as blind.

Ten months later, Simon had his first corneal transplant and eventually, after many months of recovery, regained the ability to drive. For three years things were good. However, his body started to reject the transplant making his sight very cloudy, difficult to see any detail and determine distance, and he was finally forced to give up driving again and have guided support.

Following a second successful corneal transplant in January 2014, his eye reacted well and his sight was improving all the time until an infection caused ulceration and put him back in hospital for further treatment last October.
